Welcome to the January 1996 edition of the Project Gutenberg CDROM!
This CD-ROM contains the etexts (Electronic Texts) of the Gutenberg
Project for 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, and most of 1995.
Most of the texts are provided in both ascii and zip archives.
Here are some important files and directories.
readme.txt This file
go.bat Batch file that lists the readme files
view.exe MSDOS file browser program
setup.exe Windows Setup program for this disc
docs\ Miscellaneous documents concerning this disc
texts\ Project Gutenberg Electronic Texts for MSDOS/Macintosh

Quick Start Instructions:
Windows 95:
Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive. This will automatically
start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
Windows 3.1:
Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run. At the
Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.
To start the CDROM browser program, double click on the icon called
WinView, or run the program w16view.exe located at the root directory
of the CDROM.
Windows NT:
Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run. At the
Command Line box, type: "D:\setup95", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.
To start the CDROM browser program, double click on the icon called
WinView, or run the program w32view.exe located at the root directory
of the CDROM.
MSDOS Quick Start:
Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
Example:
C:\> D:
D:\> view
Please consult the VIEW.DOC file in the \docs\ directory for full
documentation on using VIEW.EXE.

Using the 00_INDEX.HTM files
We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
to view our disc.
In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.
For example, in Netscape/Mosaic:
1) Choose File/Open File (or File/Open Local File with Mosaic)
2) Choose your CDROM Drive under "Drives"
3) Select the 00_index.htm file
4) Click on OK
The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 1.1 (Windows,
Macintosh, and FreeBSD), Netscape 1.22 (Windows), Netscape 2.0b2,
Mosaic 2.00 (Final Beta), and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

USING THE DISC -- MACINTOSH
To use the disc using a Macintosh, merely double-click on the file
you wish to view.

This disk conforms to the level 1, ISO-9660 format. All the
filenames are limited to eight single-case characters, with an
extension of up to three characters. Most directories have an index
file named 00_index.txt that contains a description of each file in
the directory.
